What has been going on
It has been a long time since I made a post beyond the archives of the "It Came From The Radio" and alot has happened.
First the Good, The radio show is doing quite well, We all have new business cards made and they look pretty awesome.
I just got my first ever trading card of my character "Sunburst" who is appearing in someone else's comic, "The War of the Independents", Also looks awesome.
And I got my pages back from being held hostage, so it now gives me the opportunity to find a new publisher and get this graphic novel finally done!
The Bad, I have dealt with N.E.B.S. (a printing company) that screwed me over with the shirts that I had made for the NYCC a few weeks ago. Not only did they miss the deadline, they still charged me for shirts that I cancelled a month ago! (everything was resolved finally tho).
As mentioned I finally got my pages back, but there were being held hostage at "Dark Elf Designs" for over 3 years! Talk about not honoring a gentleman's deal. They made promises to me and screwed me over with that! I gotta really look into who I deal with professionally more closely in the future...
and the rest: I just saw Pee Wee Herman on Broadway, it was awesome! I can't think of anyway that show could be any better. it combined everything Pee Wee (from the TV show, to the original stage show, to the movies). So the secret word was "nostalgia"!!!

When a stranger calls....
As most of you know (or should know) I host a live radio show. On it, we take calls. "Really!?", you may ask. Well, we have the ability to take calls, but rarely do. Yes, the calls to the show are limited, but I find that as a call-in show, we really don't need the calls. I think we do just fine on our own. The calls, for the most part, mess up with the flow of the show. As it stands right now, we do (roughly) 30 minutes of news, and then 30 minutes of the topic of the week. Any calls we have takes away from that. Maybe if it was just two of us (altho one of the best shows IMHO was just Hassan and I) then we might need "outside input".
Of course the fact that 90% of our listeners either hear the show live on tape (podcast, or archived), or just dont have anything to add, so I don't wory about the amount of calls. I do, however enjoy reading the comments or questions about the show afterwards.

Me? A journalist?
Something happened to me today, a guy I "know" is taking a journalism class in college and one of his assignments is to interview a journalist. He chose me! I had never thought of myself in that way before, not only am I flattered, but I now have a new respect for this little "job" I do interviewing guests and hosting this radio show....I hope I get him an "A"

I will let the article speak for itself!
Saban Capital Group recently announced it has purchased the Power Rangers property back from the Walt Disney Company. Immediately, another news release announced that Nickelodeon and Saban Brands have partnered to put the Power Rangers on the air for an 18th TV season.
Saban introduced the first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series in 1993 and made a mint off it. His acquisition from Disney includes worldwide rights to the brand as well as over 700 episodes produced over 17 years. The TV deal consists of 20 new episodes on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in 2011, with the catalog of 700 episodes launching on Nicktoons later this year.
Produced by SCG Power Rangers LLC, will commence production in summer 2010 with original Executive Producer Jonathan Tzachor back at the helm and a new cast, look and theme for the show.
Following its introduction in 1993 on the Fox Kids Network, Power Rangers quickly became the most watched children’s television program in the United States. The series has been translated into numerous languages and rose to become the #1 boys brand in the world from 1993-97, based on toy sales and television ratings. The Walt Disney Company acquired the franchise in 2001 as part of its purchase of Fox Family Worldwide, which included Saban Entertainment and its library of children’s programs. To date, Power Rangers has aired in over 60 countries and the property’s licensed products and promotions have generated well over $5 billion worldwide.
This marks the first property for Saban Brands, the recently formed subsidiary of Saban Capital Group, which was created to manage and license entertainment properties and consumer brands across media and consumer platforms throughout the world. Saban Brands also announced a new long-term master toy and video game license agreement with Bandai Namco Group, which has been the toy partner for Power Rangers since its inception. Saban Brands will manage the Power Rangers brand worldwide including licensing, merchandising, consumer promotions and brand extensions.
I am sooo Freakin' excited!

Formerly known as....
Since the new show and (hopefully) the site will reflect a broader subject, I think it is about time to change this blog from "The Comic Book Novice" to MFC Studios. I mean really, what have I been talking about that has to do with the old CBN show? However, since that show ended, and the new one started I have been keeping up this blog. so instead of just losing down this place and lose what ever followers I have left, I will just re-nmae it and carry on. Think of it as a going from Three's Company to Three's a Crowd.

Sneak peek
Sometimes I get really excited about things. So much so that I like to share things that are still in the infancy stages and then when nothing happens I take it to heart. I was once told that I should never promote anything that isn't already done, and yet there Hollywood is full of movies that never see the light of day (or even the green light of production).
I bring this up because I have been talking about getting a new webmaster for some time and still nothing new to show for it yet...Well, at least this guy here has his own website and has signed on to redesign (and finally re-launch) my mfc-studios site. Take a look and tell me what you think.
Also, I have been informed that later this year, one of my characters (who also happens to be my unofficial mascot) will have her own trading card! Whoo Hoo! More info on that as it becomes available.

still pressing on.
As alot of you know, or should after this post, my current "day job" is working at a movie theatre. Recently I got a promotion, but the down side is that I seem to have alot less time to devote to the company and the radio show.
When times are at their worst is when one should focus the most into their dreams, as opposed to the other way around. Yet here I am only making sure we have a decent show to do each week (which, with the right mixture of people isnt that difficult) and not much more than that.
But I still can't just up and quit, and as long as I am able to keep doing it, the show (at very least) must go on!

The simplest most difficult game you will ever play
I mentioned runescape in a previous post, now this is all about "Deadly Danger Dungeon" Created by James Rolfe (The angry video game nerd). Here is the game, and This is the corresponding video (lots o' cursing).
All you have to do it roll the dice and get the guy out of the place...as of this post I am on my 303rd try.....

The Real Nightmare
I wish I could really say more than this, but the new "Nightmare on Elm Street" really doesn't do anything, nor go anywhere. I didn't like it nor dislike it, it just laid there.
The best comparison I can give to this movie to the original one is that this is like looking at a newer, more sleek looking copy yet there was something missing....I guess Robert Englund is so associated with the role of Freddy, he can't be replaced.

Runescape
Times are tough? Money is tight? Need to find a game to play? Try Runescape. I was only introduced to this game recently but it seems that this is the most popular free RPG out there. Yes, you heard me FREE. There is a members area, but the free area is prety big with lots of stuff to do and people to fight. The learning curve is pretty easy and there are a lot of websites out there to give you a hand. The only thing I hate about it, is that when you die, you lose all but 3 of your items unless you manage to find the exact spot you died at and retrieve your belongings BEFORE your 2:00 time limit expires....Read more about it here.

building bridges
A long time ago we had a guest on "The Comic Book Novie" and he mentioned how much time is wasted on porn. He said "If we (as a species) would stop spending time on porn, we would have built bridges to japan by now".
That got me thinking, I havent read a comic in quite some time and now that it is out of my system, I really don't miss it. I wonder what else that if people do that they would stop doing (entertainment wise) would it be missed, or what else could be accomplished....
Maybe it will be wasted on something else.....
Just a random thought.

What to watch?
I have been kicking around ideas for the webcam portion of the radio show. What can I have on there to draw in more viewers? I mean watching us talk isnt that exciting, It's more of a novelty. Thanks to a listener suggestion, we now have signs of ourselves, but I think I can do much more. I do have to admit that I have been holding off some ideas until the web site is ready, only because I want to make the most out of it.
So here is what I have so far. Women, women in cosumes, women dancing in costumes, and maybe a dancing wind up something or oother.. Like I said, they are just ideas....
What do you think would be cool to see while we entertain you on the radio show? Or is it better to not be distracted by watching us?

I always wanted my own TV show.
Something occurred to me the other day. With the live in-studio web cam at the radio station, It's like I finally had a TV show. If you recall, I had been trying to make a TV version of "The Comic Book Novice". Each time "something" came up. but now effortlessly, I am on your computers doing a show. Funny how things work....

What's my favorite?
This question was asked of me this week, and since last week's show sorta revolved around our "guilty pleasures", I figured I'd post my list here. Keep in mind I have very unique tastes and that To be considered for ranking, I have to see it in the Theatre (of course movies before my time are exempt).
most movies start at a 5 (out of 10). If it is a sequel, (or prequel, technically it is considered one movie) or remake or "reimaginating" it loses points automatically. the scoring goes as follows:
You get points for having EVERYTHING that is in the trailer in the actual movie. There is a sliding scale for movies meeting my expectations, so even if I go see a sucky movie and it is as sucky as expected, it gets a 5. You get points for surprises or things I just simply did not expect to see. You also get points for making me actually "feel something" when it is over. Making me think is also important. You get points for making sense, if you set rules in the movie FOLLOW THEM! A great soundtrack gives you points, as well as what I like to call the lost of time awareness factor (at no point in the movie as I allowed to stop and think, "man this movie is long", or, "jeez, how long have I been in this seat?". Since I am a guy you get points for hot chicks in the movie. Of course not having these things will make you lose points (obviously). Lastly, a standard was set along time ago for a perfect 10 movie: Transformers: The Movie for many of the reasons stated above AND the fact that it far exceeded my expectations and BLEW MY MIND! To this day there is no other perfect 10 movie. so here is an abridged "9" list.
Rumble in the Bronx
District 9
The Ring
Dirty work
Airplane!

news and updates
I know I have said it before, but it loks like this time is the real deal. Thanks to co-host Hassan, I am in contact with a new (what is this like 5 already?) webmaster. It seems that he'll "take care of everything" and get it bakc up and running in a few short weeks, which is great.
The show is going strong with no signs of slowing down. With the summer movies on the horizon, we'll have plenty to talk about. It's a shame however that I won't be able to attend many (if any at all) cons this year. The recession has affected everyone and I am no different. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get a press pass to the big con showdown in October. I was contimplating getting a table, but It just isn't in the cards right now.
My comic freeze is still holding (of course as each additional month passes the more I'll have to catch up) and my own comic book (the second issue) is that much further away.
I have been thinking that maybe instead of trying to hit that home run, a series of singles would be better suited for me. So rebuilding here I come.

A little light
The Oscars came and went. To be honest I haven't seen the Oscars since RoboCop's Ed 209 tried to kill Pee Wee Herman (Pee wee escaped by flying over the audience) and RoboCop showed up to help him out. Honest! I remember it like it was yesterday.
Anyways, I just was happy that Avatar didn't win big (or really at all) at the Oscars. It tells me that there are some people out there who don't think that this movie was the end all epic sci-fi movie (complete with 3-D effects!).
I have to give it on the computer effects (but it still didnt seem "real". At least
District 9 was nominated.

sign of the times
Times are rough. The recession hit me as much as everyone else. When things are tough, certain things had to be sacrificed. For me it was comic books. For some time I have not opened a comic, read anything about comics (well, the titles I normally read anyways) nor found out what has happened to my favorite characters.
It's weird, really, that all this time has passed and I have no idea as to how many of the story arcs that I had to leave behind have been resolved. And despite the fact that I have been to a couple of cons since I stopped reading comics, I still have taken pride in not knowing what the hell is going on.
On the other side, (because of connections with my Indy and mainstream friends) I know alot more about the buisness end of things. I wonder if when things turn around for me (as well as my company) will I bother to pick up where I left off in comic book world......

And now there are three
I know I have mentioned this before, but now it is just getting out of control. For a while, around August of 2009, I found out that there would be two huge conventions (two of the three biggest guns out there) during the same month (the following October). When October of 2009 came around, I got the official word that Wizard conventions were going head-to-head with the NYCC guys. Now for the record, I have no problems with either company, (as a matter of fact, both of them have done nothing but be helpful to my little company (and by osmosis my radio show). That being said, I think it is the stupidest thing to do. It will hurt the fans, the vendors and both companies. NY is big enough to have 2 cons in the same year, so why have them on the same days? Anyways, I have voiced this alot on my radio show, and just last week, I found out even worse news...Seems that Wizard has decided to have a third convention (their second one) in the same month over in NJ!
So let me put this in perspective for you: In one month there will be three HUGE conventions in the tri-state area 2 of which will be on the same day(s)! All I have to say about this is WTF?

I love the internet. You can find just about anything on it if you know where to look. The problem is knowing where to look!
Before, when you wanted to see an old show or something from your childhood, you had two options: hope and pray for a re-run, or go to a con and hope that the "bootleg guy" had it on tape.
Everyone had a list of things they'd like to see again. I was no different. I wanted to see the final episode of Dungeons & Dragons, the final episode of Captain Power, along with a few other things. One of the most sought after things was something that I had only seen once, and couldn't remember the name (which made it the most difficult thing to look for let alone find). All I remembered was the theme song.
It was a show about a magician/superhero it aired on fox at 7pm on a sunday during the 90's and that was about all I had to go on.
then came along a little site called Tv Tango. The site has a huge database of all the tv listings from 1950 to the predent. It's like having all the TV guides available at your fingertips. So with a little work, I came across this:
Turns out he made 2 shows (yet I only remember parts of each one).
at anyrate, after almost 15 years, I found it!

Are we there yet?
It's funny, I almost forgot to post this week! (with the show now officially on wednesdays, I an doing two blogs on two different days) Anyways, at least 1 of the 2 things I mentioned comes to play. I had a discussion with my newest webmaster and I was told that she wants the site to be at it's best and she couldn't launch it until it was ready. I countered with, "What good is it being perfect when no one ever sees it?". This is an interesting argument. I mean does one launch a plane that isn't 100% safe? or do certain concessions have to be made to get it out there by a reasonable date?
I had a conversation with a friend of mine about this. We were talking about microsoft windows and how they seem to launch a large number of their programs with bugs still in it and fix it as they go along. Or any of those games that you play online (such as World of Warcraft or City of Heroes). They have what is called beta testing were people play the game and look for flaws or bugs. Eventually, they release the game and shortly there after (and for many years afterwards) they release updates or patches. So the game really is never "finished".
So at point does the (for lack of a better term) readiness, lose out to the demand of results? I really can't say.....

Still shuffling
Ho-kay,
In an earlier post I mentioned that the radio show would move to Mondays. Then I said the show would stay on Tuesdays....
Here is the official word. The show will move to Wednesdays at 9pm EST starting next week!
What happened was this....As you know there are 4 of us who do the show, Charlie, Hassan, Myself and Herman. As time went on, their schedulles changed. So it worked out like this: Herman was only available to do a show on Mon and Wed, Charlie is good to go on Tues and Wed, and Hassan is fine with Mon and Tues. So no matter what day I choose, I would lose someone. Then last week, Charlie hits me with a bomb, he can only do the show on Wed. So if i Kept the show on Tuesdays, I'd lose 2 hosts.
Wendesday here we come! Best part? We get to go on at 9pm! at least more people will be up on the east coast!
Website still set to re-launch at the end of the month!

Ideas vs execution
A lot of people have ideas. The world moves because of them. Some ideas are stupid, some can change worlds. Some people have less than others. I feel I am an idea man. I can sit and think of things all day long. The problem is that there are certain things I know I can't do.
Circumstances, timing and a whole slew or reasons let gerat ideas fall on the curb and the very smae circumstances cause bad ideas to make it through. Go to a library, movie theatre, or just go to youtube. There is alot of crap out there. However, in all that crap, there are gems to find. I;m sure there is some kind of fomrula out there to give the ratio of good stuff to crap that gts made.
So I can put on a good show. I believe I can make a good (entertaining) comic. I believe I can network and make good connections, but there are people out there who make all the money yet say "all I want to do is tell a good story". 90% of those people make crap and people just eat that up.
now that my little rant is over, here are a few updates:
If all goes well, my site should be 100% up and running by the end of this month.
The radio show will stay where it is (Tuesday nights 11pm EST).

Not Just Leno is moving!
With all this what to do with Leno going back to 11:30 and Conan going...well, who knows? We decided, (or really it was decided for us) that we will go back in time and do our Tuesday show on Mondays. It will be weird for us doing a show and broadcasting it one day earlier. At least we will be really ahead on our news segments!
Speaking of moving, if all goes well, my site will move to it's new webpage by the end of this month. My webmaster is working hard to make sure it is secure and "Mark-friendly". Which, as it turns out is no easy task! So keep following us (my blog will still be every Tuesday) and listen in to the show!

2010 Power Rangers
As many of you know (or should by now) I am a HUGE Power Ranger fan. This past weekend while doing my daily timer recordings, I came across a listing on ABC that read "Might Morphin' Power Rangers: NEW". Now I know that MMPR was the name of the original series 16 (yeah that long) years ago. Since then there are new shows which (some more than others) are connected to the orignal series. The lastest, would be RPM.
So it stroke me as odd that Disney would call MMPR "new". Later that day, I found out that Disney took the old footage and...(for lack of a better word) tried to...um..."update" it.
Let me go on the record by saying they failed miserably and I really really dislike what they did to one of my favorite Tv shows. It's as if they took something (that let's face it wasn't shakespear) and crapped all over it to try to appease the yunger (ie: target) audience. I'll let the videos speak for themselves:
